Congressional inquiry into sexual assaults and record-keeping

Remarking on New York Times coverage of the quantity of sexual assaults and sexual misconduct reports filed with Uber, a letter from Representative Nancy Mace, Chairwoman of the House Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Government Innovation, questioned the discrepancy between the Times’ report — 400,181 reports of sexual assault and sexual misconduct in the US between 2017 and 2022 — versus the 12,552 cases previously disclosed by Uber.  The letter specifically questioned the accuracy and completness of Uber’s data, and the letter flagged the harms from underreporting or delayed disclosure.
